Chronicle Chevron Houston Marathon Coverage
I'm pleased to say that this year it seems to have changed - and for the better!
As I put together this summary on Wednesday, I'm hoping that as the race gets closer we'll get some excellent analysis of the marathon and the half marathon field.
Running Marathon Offers Special Challenge (Sports; Sunday, January 8)
Good opening article by Roberta MacInnis to give the "everyday major sports fan," who like me at one point would never even think about riding a bike 26.2 miles let alone run it, an idea of what exactly will be holding them up in traffic on Sunday morning. In a knowledgeable runner's lexicon, Bingham, Houston Fit and Jack Lippincott all resonate as identifiable entities. Grade "A"
Runner Gets High Mileage: Marathon entrant to wear bib No. 100 to make milestone (Sports; Monday, January 9)
A very deserving article by Roberta MacInnis on our own Suzy Seeley - a true competitor, an excellent runner at all distances and a very classy lady. Grade "A+"
Fit To Run -- When A Loss Is A Win: Eat less. Move more. (Life; Monday, January 9)
Amazing stories of three runners, including our own Steve Bezner, who "lost more than 100 pounds each to get ready for Sunday's Chevron Houston Marathon and its affiliated races" by Roberta MacInnis. The runners are Steve Bezner (marathon), Bridget Angel (half marathon) and Rhonda Hendricks. Grade "A+"
Family Offers Fast Company: Over miles of marathon route, it helps if kin are there as backup (Sports; Tuesday, January 10)
An excellent "lead" by Neil Hohlfeld that shares with us a number of families, including 22-year-old Brandon Adame, who is blind - more local than out-of-town references - that will be running one of Sunday's events together. Simple, yet effective. Grade "A"
She Doesn't Skip A Beat: El Paso women is back on track after giving kidney to aid her husband (Sports; Wedneday, January 11)
An inspiring story by Dale Robertson (why is it that all I continue to remember about Dale is that Dan Pastorini pushed him out of a trailer once) about El Paso's Terry-Ann Rodriguez (but also a Houston native - a graduate of Fort Bend Dulles HS). If this doesn't inspire you to achieve something, I'm not sure what will. Grade "A+"
Marathon Tips From 5 Who've Gone The Distance (Life; Wednesday, January 11)
Profiles and pictures put together by Roberta MacInnis from Claire Greenberg, Dalton Pulsipher, Meredith Canada, Victor Aguirre and Tom Stilwell -- all marathon veterans offering advice for potential first-timers or "many timers" who can always use a different word or two of encouragement. Grade "A"
