Former Houstonian Koborski featuerd in RW's Daily News
Koborsi, who's originally from Texas, finished his NCAA eligiblity in June and headed to Europe, where he set new personal bests of 13:26.65 for 5000 meters and 7:48.40 for 3000. Now he's doing his first professional road race, the USA 5K Championships in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday. And he's drawing inspiration from the stellar 2006 breakthrough of another young American, Matt Tegenkamp, who got to 13:04 in the 5000, submits Koborsi, largely by "believing that he belonged at that level." Koborsi notes that young American stars "now actually find no reason why they can't run 13:00 or 3:31 in the near future. The expectations have been raised, and I'm planning on being a mjaor part of that change."

Koborski has HARRA roots as he was a former member of the Al Lawrence Running Club, according to this newsletter item from founder Al Lawrence where he was named the club's "Runner Of The Year":
Rod Koborski is just 17 years old and has been a member of the ALRC for three years.
He has never run in a HARRA championship because of high school competitive commitments in the Spring and Fall, but he represents the club when school is not in session. He won the Tommy Hillfinger July 4th race two years in a row and in this year’s 5K race held in conjunction with the Houston Marathon placed 2nd to Olympian, Justin Chaston.
In the Texas fall high school cross country season, Rob dominated and won the State Championship by a record margin from the defending State champion.
He ran in the National Footlocker Cross Country Championship and was awarded All-America honors with his 8th place finish. During the Texas High School spring track season, Rod broke 9 minutes for 3,200 meters, the first time in 14 years for a Texas runner.
Rod had two more sub-9 minute performances before the Texas State place 2nd with a 4"13.7 clocking. On June 9, Rod competed in the Golden West National High School Championship in Sacramento. He placed 2nd in 8:57.1. His four sub-9 minute clockings in a season is the first time this feat has been accomplished in Texas High School history.
Rod Koborski is the deserving recipient of the ALRC Runner of the year Award. Congratulations, Rod.
