Happy 40th Birthday!
I'm really not one to make too big of a deal about birthdays. In fact, I can spot a ruse coming from a mile away. However, I appreciate really those people that took the time to remember and wish me "Happy Birthday" even though I don't really spell things out for most people. For those that read and did, it means more than you'll really know. (I learned who my real friends were this past year.)
My wife wished me Happy Birthday before she went to bed and shortly after midnight, Edwin Quarles was sending me an e-mail wishing me the same -- as well as some information on an exciting endeavour for running in the greater Houston area that we'll be revealing as soon as it is practically possible.
A couple of surprises included a nice e-mail in the form of an electronic card from Chevron Houston Marathon public address announcer J. Fred Duckett, a phone call from Melissa Broussard over in Buna (and a fellow Seven Hills Running Club member) as well as a visit here at the house from Jeff Welch, one of my groomsmen in our wedding back in 1991.
My parents pressed me - early this morning, I might add - for a place to take me to dinner so I chose Pappasito's, where we had to wait for an hour on a busy Friday night.
I got a couple of books, money from my grandparents and in-laws (hmmm ... may be enough to buy another pair of Fortitudes at Luke's), a gift certificate from Luke's (more shoes) from my parents, a gift certificate to Foot Locker from my sister and brother-in-law and a nice plush seat cover from Luke's from my wife and daughter (and I didn't have to win or work anything either.)
And, in the morning, I'll see all of my friends at Run The Woodlands! What a weekend!
