Houston Running

One of the leading sources for the discussion of Houston-area (and Texas as well) road racing. Focus and attention will be given to Houston-area runners, specifically HARRA members, that compete in outside-of-the-area events as well as those who do interesting things that aren't captured in the various media outlets, such as Inside Texas Running, Runner Triathlete News and Roberta MacInnis' Running Notebook in the Houston Chronicle (all fine publications and columns but with limitations too).

Name:
Location: Spring, Texas, United States

I'm a mid-to-the back of the pack runner who probably enjoys promoting runners more than I do running myself ... I've completed 21 marathons (with a 4:47:32 PR! in Austin) and 52 half marathons (with a 2:09:58 PR! in Oregon) since November 2003 ... I've done a marathon in 12 states, half marathon in 23 and an event in 30 states and one Canadian province ... I have a 13-year-old daughter, Waverly Nicole, who completed her first half marathon in January 2006, made only two B's each of the last two years, was the only sixth grader to sing a solo (Carrie Underwood's Don't Forget To Remember Me) in their choir program (adding Taylor Swift's Tim McGraw in '08) and scored a 19 on the ACT in December 2007 as a seventh grader ... Waverly and I are members of the following clubs -- the Seven Hills Running Club, HARRA and The Woodlands Running Club ... I'm Marathon Maniac #308 ... I edit HARRA's Footprints in Inside Texas Running and write a column for Runner Triathlete News called, "Talking the Talk" ... I'm also the running columnist for the Courier of Montgomery County ... I'm a three-time winner of TAPPS' Sportswriter of the Year Award as well as TABC's Golden Hoops Award.

Monday Night Treadmill

Another day. Another hour on the treadmill. Better than a zero in the books!

Friday, 5/30: 60 minutes -- All at 4.3 mph
Saturday, 5/31: 5K and 60 minutes on the stationary bike
Sunday, 6/1: 60 minutes -- 53 minutes at 4.4 mph, 7 minutes at 4.5 mph
Monday, 6/2: 60 minutes -- 52 minutes at 4.5 mph, 6 minutes at 5.0 mph, 1 each at 5.4 and 6.2 mph

I've been in a partial funk for almost the last three weeks. I know what's causing it, but man I'm having a challenging time shaking it. I should get my rear-end out of bed in the morning after Waverly goes to school and knock it out then. Because once I work out, I definitely feel better. :)

In getting ready for volleyball camp from Wednesday through Saturday, Waverly ran 20 minutes on the treadmill and did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike. Nice!

I'll be going to Jackson, Mississippi tomorrow for work, and won't be back in Houston until Thursday night at 9:15 p.m. Why is that important to all of you? To you, it isn't. Except that it probably rules out me going to Pennsylvania this weekend (which primarily would include seeing my grandparents.)

That may make the weekend's agenda to go to the HARRA Summer Celebration Saturday night and then head to Temple for the Half Marathon there on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. (Not sure about running the Heights Fun Run 5K. It's a great event, despite there not being complete times published.) Interestingly enough, Jeff Galloway is supposed to be in attendance.

A final note from last night's Tim McGraw concert from my daughter. Who was in attendance? None other than Roger Clemens and presumably (let's hope, I guess) his wife, Debbie. She said she also saw Clay Walker who got up and sang a number with Tim. She said during the pre-party back stage before the show that she was no more than 10 feet from McGraw.
