Houston Running

One of the leading sources for the discussion of Houston-area (and Texas as well) road racing. Focus and attention will be given to Houston-area runners, specifically HARRA members, that compete in outside-of-the-area events as well as those who do interesting things that aren't captured in the various media outlets, such as Inside Texas Running, Runner Triathlete News and Roberta MacInnis' Running Notebook in the Houston Chronicle (all fine publications and columns but with limitations too).

Name:
Location: Spring, Texas, United States

I'm a mid-to-the back of the pack runner who probably enjoys promoting runners more than I do running myself ... I've completed 21 marathons (with a 4:47:32 PR! in Austin) and 52 half marathons (with a 2:09:58 PR! in Oregon) since November 2003 ... I've done a marathon in 12 states, half marathon in 23 and an event in 30 states and one Canadian province ... I have a 13-year-old daughter, Waverly Nicole, who completed her first half marathon in January 2006, made only two B's each of the last two years, was the only sixth grader to sing a solo (Carrie Underwood's Don't Forget To Remember Me) in their choir program (adding Taylor Swift's Tim McGraw in '08) and scored a 19 on the ACT in December 2007 as a seventh grader ... Waverly and I are members of the following clubs -- the Seven Hills Running Club, HARRA and The Woodlands Running Club ... I'm Marathon Maniac #308 ... I edit HARRA's Footprints in Inside Texas Running and write a column for Runner Triathlete News called, "Talking the Talk" ... I'm also the running columnist for the Courier of Montgomery County ... I'm a three-time winner of TAPPS' Sportswriter of the Year Award as well as TABC's Golden Hoops Award.

1st annual Houston Running Bloggers Pre-Marathon Pasta Party

Are you in yet?
Save the date of Friday evening, January 13, 2006!

Our own "Mr. I Hate Running", Joe Breda, has confirmed that our 1st annual Houston Running Bloggers Pre-Marathon Pasta Party will be at Spaghetti Warehouse downtown Friday evening, January 13, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. Joe has arranged with the restaraunt for there to be an open menu and separate checks. Please RSVP with Joe as soon as possible at joeandmel(at)ev1.net -- as the count is already at least 20 (Dalton Pulsipher and Hahn Nguyen, Holden Choi, Vic Kaiser, Bill Dwyer, Keith Kelleher, Edwin Quarles, Cassie Cowan, Mannie Mondragon, Waverly and Jon Walk, Steve and Amy Bezner, Lance Collins and his wife, Joe Breda and his wife, Jennifer Kim, Sarah Graybeal and Erica Smith.)

This will be a perfect opportunity for you to come downtown, pickup your packet at the George R. Brown Convention Center and then join the Houston Running Bloggers for dinner and fun! By the way, you do NOT have to be a Houston Running Blogger (yet) to join us! Just be committed to having a great time!

Many other clubs in town have theirs that same weekend, of course. Bayou City Road Runners' is on Thursday night. Galloway's Houston Running Group and Champions Fit, for example, is the same evening. The Striders' usually is Saturday at noon at Collina's, Gessner and Kingsride just south of I-10! (I should be running the marathon if I plan to "load" twice! But I hear that there is a 5K out in Kingwood Marathon Sunday afternoon too!)

I'm working on a speaker, but regardless we'll have a great time!

That evening, we also may be discussing the Houston Running Bloggers taking on the Wasatch Back Relay in late June in Utah and hopefully, we'll have our new HRB running shirts!

If you haven't gotten plugged our Message Board, it can be found at http://www.houstonrunningbloggers.com/

Yes, I'm still leaning toward the Spaghetti Warehouse. It's centrally located and can accomodate big parties. But I'm open to suggestion.

I would agree about being centrally located. Packet pickup is available through 7 p.m.

Everyone could pick their packet up and have dinner together ... all in one trip.

I'd say "Let's run with it" until there is an overwhelming urge to do something else.

As soon as I confirm a speaker, I'll let you know.

Do you think that we may need to confirm a certain-sized group of, perhaps, 20 in case there are other parties that plan on doing the same?
