Half2Run Training Tip
I included this one because I thought it was interesting. I've heard the advice on the flat surface - regarding the number of foot strikes - but never on uphills or downhills.
Training Tips & Inspiration:
Aside from being "over the hill", the hills will make you stronger!Make them your friend. Here are some tips on how to run them.
When running on a flat surface, your "cadence" (the number of times ONE foot strikes the ground in one minute) should be about 85 - 90 strides per minute.
When you begin running uphill, your cadence will slow down to about 60 - 65 strides per minute.
When you are going downhill your cadence should be above 100 strides per minute.

You can try to make hills your friends but in the end they will still suck hard, regardless of the amount of footstrikes.
A little different than what I learned. I was taught that you may or may not reduce the strides per minute, but you reduce the length of the stride going up hill. Saves the legs. But, there are many methodologies. Just have to choose the right one for you.
