"Chasing" The Original Texas Marathon Challenge
San Antonio's Roger Soler started the Texas Marathon Challenge back in 1999 when you had to run a specific five (5) marathons -- San Antonio, White Rock, Houston, Austin and Cowtown. Today, you can choose any five Texas marathons or ultramarathons to complete the Challenge.
So how many this past marathon season did the original five? 11!
Eric Etheridge, 37, of Austin qualified for Boston in all five marathons!
San Angelo's Kent Fish, 52, qualified in the blazing heat in San Antonio, but didn't again at any of the other four.
Almost half of the group (5 of the 11) ran faster at Cowtown six days after running Freescale in the near-ice conditions.
Three (3) Houstonians accomplished the feat -- Henry Griffin, 59, John Fredrickson, 67 and Lou Wilson, 69. Two (2) husband-and-wife teams did it too. They included Mitch and Vicki Chazan of Sunset Valley as well as Hugo and Lea Velez of Lewisville.
34 additional runners completed the first two, nine (9) more did San Antonio, White Rock and Houston while 14 did all but Cowtown.
The complete results can be found here.
2006 Aramco Houston Half Marathon Best Times By Age
Why did I originally do this in 2005? More than likely, I was bored and wanted to dissect the list further. Well, I updated this for 2006. It can be found here.
I think I'm going to try and find out who - if any - are the event's legacy runners (those who have done all five from 2002-2006).

What are you doing up at 2 in the morning? Guess the same thing I'm doing up at 4 in the morning. :)
Is it Tornadoes or Tornados? Is it Tomotoes or Tomatos? Well, I can tell you as far as the Tornados Running Club - it's Tornados. The reason it is spelled this way is because in the Spanish language Tornado is spelled the same way as in english. Since we originated from the works of Miquel Lopez and his brothers, we took on the spanish version of the name. So when you make it plural in the spanish language it becomes Tornados, with the "a" in the word making the sound "ah" like in the spanish alphabet. It's not a long "a". Please use the correct spelling of Tornados on your website when your refer to Tornados Running Club. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Good blog by the way.
I found three entries that had the spelling of Tornadoes since September of last year. I was able to correct two of them.
In the future, if you find an error as such, it would be a bit more savvy to drop me an e-mail at walksports(at)aol.com to let me know.
Thanks!
