Houston Running

One of the leading sources for the discussion of Houston-area (and Texas as well) road racing. Focus and attention will be given to Houston-area runners, specifically HARRA members, that compete in outside-of-the-area events as well as those who do interesting things that aren't captured in the various media outlets, such as Inside Texas Running, Runner Triathlete News and Roberta MacInnis' Running Notebook in the Houston Chronicle (all fine publications and columns but with limitations too).

Name:
Location: Spring, Texas, United States

I'm a mid-to-the back of the pack runner who probably enjoys promoting runners more than I do running myself ... I've completed 21 marathons (with a 4:47:32 PR! in Austin) and 52 half marathons (with a 2:09:58 PR! in Oregon) since November 2003 ... I've done a marathon in 12 states, half marathon in 23 and an event in 30 states and one Canadian province ... I have a 13-year-old daughter, Waverly Nicole, who completed her first half marathon in January 2006, made only two B's each of the last two years, was the only sixth grader to sing a solo (Carrie Underwood's Don't Forget To Remember Me) in their choir program (adding Taylor Swift's Tim McGraw in '08) and scored a 19 on the ACT in December 2007 as a seventh grader ... Waverly and I are members of the following clubs -- the Seven Hills Running Club, HARRA and The Woodlands Running Club ... I'm Marathon Maniac #308 ... I edit HARRA's Footprints in Inside Texas Running and write a column for Runner Triathlete News called, "Talking the Talk" ... I'm also the running columnist for the Courier of Montgomery County ... I'm a three-time winner of TAPPS' Sportswriter of the Year Award as well as TABC's Golden Hoops Award.

Wade wins at Atlanta's Peachtree 10K

Houston's Sean Wade, 40, captured yet another Masters title on the fourth of July in Atlanta as he easily won the men's division at the Peachtree Road Race 10K.

Led by second-seeded Martin Lei's time of 27:25, Kenyan runners took the first six spots, seven of the first nine and 9 of the first 14 to lead the way. Last year's winner, Gilbert Okari, finished 4th in 27:59. Okari won last year in a time of 28:19, which would have been good enough only for 7th this year.

The first American male to cross the finish line was Minneapolis' Jason Lehmkuhle, 28, who was 14th with a time of 29:22.

The top nine spots in the women's division went to foreign runners as well as the Netherlands' Lornah Kiplagat won her fifth Peachtree 10K putting on a burst of speed to fly by rival Jemima Jelagat of Kenya with less than a half mile to go in the race. Kiplagat won by two (2) seconds in 31:13.

American runners finished in three of the next four places (10th, 11th and 13th) as Katie McGregor (Minneapolis, MN), Elva Dryer (Albuquerque, NM) and Amy Yoder-Begley (Avilla, IN) posted times of 32:44, 32:51 and 32:56, respectively. Poland's Dorota Gruca, 35, who ran here in Houston in January, was 12th in 32:52.

Last year, then 27-year-old Webster, Texas resident Gabriel Rodriguez was the fastest Texas finisher with a time of 32:11 and a 35th place finish.

In 2006, the top Texan title belongs to Wade, who continues to run well, as his closest competitor was Austin's Gilbert Tuhabonye. The 31-year-old, originally from Burundi, was 52nd overall in a time of 32:38.

I read that they had a timing chip dispute with one of the waves.

And if I had seen your time - while looking for a post on your blog - I would have certainly called you out! :)

Have a safe trip home!

Yeah, I posted late. Didn't hear about chip problems, but then again, I didn't have a chip! Only the qualifiers (<55:00) get chips.
