Houston Running

One of the leading sources for the discussion of Houston-area (and Texas as well) road racing. Focus and attention will be given to Houston-area runners, specifically HARRA members, that compete in outside-of-the-area events as well as those who do interesting things that aren't captured in the various media outlets, such as Inside Texas Running, Runner Triathlete News and Roberta MacInnis' Running Notebook in the Houston Chronicle (all fine publications and columns but with limitations too).

Name:
Location: Spring, Texas, United States

I'm a mid-to-the back of the pack runner who probably enjoys promoting runners more than I do running myself ... I've completed 21 marathons (with a 4:47:32 PR! in Austin) and 52 half marathons (with a 2:09:58 PR! in Oregon) since November 2003 ... I've done a marathon in 12 states, half marathon in 23 and an event in 30 states and one Canadian province ... I have a 13-year-old daughter, Waverly Nicole, who completed her first half marathon in January 2006, made only two B's each of the last two years, was the only sixth grader to sing a solo (Carrie Underwood's Don't Forget To Remember Me) in their choir program (adding Taylor Swift's Tim McGraw in '08) and scored a 19 on the ACT in December 2007 as a seventh grader ... Waverly and I are members of the following clubs -- the Seven Hills Running Club, HARRA and The Woodlands Running Club ... I'm Marathon Maniac #308 ... I edit HARRA's Footprints in Inside Texas Running and write a column for Runner Triathlete News called, "Talking the Talk" ... I'm also the running columnist for the Courier of Montgomery County ... I'm a three-time winner of TAPPS' Sportswriter of the Year Award as well as TABC's Golden Hoops Award.

Houston Running Bloggers Update #2

I think one of the things that I've done well over my career is that I've been an "implementer" or one that gets things started and brings everyone into the fold.

I see that happening here with those of us who fall under the label now of "Houston Running Bloggers" - something that I'm excited about and personally happy about being a distinct part of.

As of this weekend, we now have a work-in-progress logo (see Sarah's blog at http://www.saroy.net/, thanks to Sarah Graybeal, as well as a website, houstonrunningbloggers.com, thanks to Donna and Edwin Quarles.

With this in mind, I want to make sure that we recap who is falling in this group to date. I don't think that I'm missing anyone, but please let me know if I have.

Cassie Cowan (Houston)
Edwin Quarles (Angleton)
Gabriel Rodriguez (Webster)
Holden Choi (The Woodlands)
Jennifer Kim (Houston)
Jessica Alexander (Houston)
Joe Breda (Houston)
Jon Walk (Spring)
Keith Kelleher (Pasadena)
Lisa Leese (Houston)
Sam Rodriguez (Clear Lake)
Sarah Graybeal (Clear Lake)
Steve Bezner (Meadows Place)
Vic Kaiser (Houston)

There are a couple of other blogs out there, but I haven't gotten any response from those individuals in posts that I've left or have I seen those folks make comments on any of our sites. These are some of the ones that I've been visiting recently:

A Place to Process, Greg Boncimino (Cypress), gregboncimino.blogspot.com
(Training for Houston Half Marathon with his daughters)

Dave's Running Blog, Dave Smart (The Woodlands), runnerdad.blogspot.com

Michelle's Web Log, Michelle Ratliff (Sugar Land), michelleratliff.blogspot.com
(Scheduled to run the 20K this Sunday)

Stranger in a Strange Land, Erica Smith, esmith15.blogspot.com
(Running the Marine Corps Marathon in three weeks)

Tim's Body For Life, timsbfl.blogspot.com
(Scheduled to run all of the Warm-Up Series Races)

As far as racing goes this weekend, I know that Edwin and I are both doing the Huntsville Half Marathon on Saturday. Holden, Joe and Steve are running the full 20K on Sunday. Cassie and Sarah are pairing up on a relay team for the 20K while Jessica is running one leg of the relay with a friend.

Should be a great weekend! Let me know if I have missed anyone or if somebody is doing an event!

Cool! Website! I'll mess around with other logo ideas. That was by no means the first or best or only idea I had...just was one of the easier ones to quickly sketch out. :)
